PANJIM: The State Government has reviewed classification of municipal areas considering the Census 2011, as per which Margao and Mormugao municipalities are classified under “A” category.
“In pursuance of upgradation of certain existing municipal councils and after taking into consideration the Census 2011, it is expedient to amend the Schedule I appended to the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968,” Director Urban Development IAS R Menaka said in a notification issued on Thursday.
As per the classification, Margao and Mormugao Municipal council are classified under “A” category.
Eight municipalities classified as “B” class councils are Bicholim, Canacona, Cuncolim, Curchorem, Mapusa, Ponda, Quepem and Sankhali.
The three municipal councils under “C” class are Pernem, Valpoi and Sanguem.
