MARGAO: South Goa district Collector, N D Agrawal on Friday lifted the ban on bauxite mining at Canaguinim after the Mines department clarified that the mining ban in the State is not applicable to bauxite mining.
After receiving the mines director’s clarification, Agrawal gave the go-ahead for resumption of bauxite mining and has directed the police to communicate the decision to the mine owner Mayur Gosalia. “The mines director has clarified that the Shah Commission recommendation on mining ban is applicable only for iron and manganese ore. The report does not make any mention about bauxite,” he said. Even as the mine owner is bracing up to resume mining operations at the Canaguinim site, there seems no solution yet over the bitter battle amongst the truckers fighting for a share of the mining transport
