MARGAO, NOV 21 The state-of-the-art Dr Francis Luis Gomes district library was finally inaugurated on Sunday, with Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat announcing the government's plans to build a hi-tech central library at Panjim.

The state-of-the-art Dr Francis Luis Gomes district library was finally inaugurated on Sunday, with Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat announcing the government’s plans to build a hi-tech central library at Panjim.
After inaugurating the modern district library in the presence of PWD Minister, Churchill Alemao, the Chief Minister said the government is committed in giving a big boost to the library movement in the state, adding that he department of Art and Culture has taken the responsibility to take the movement to the grass roots.
“The libraries need to be vibrant. We have to bring the younger generation back to the libraries. The library buildings should be vibrant”, he said
Saying that reading enriches knowledge, the Chief Minister said that government is committed to take the library movement to the grass roots by inculcating reading habits amongst the younger generation. “The younger generation should take benefit of the facility. The parents have the responsibility to ensure that their wards avail the library facility”, he added.
Paying rich tributes to Dr Francis Luis Gomes, the Chief Minister said that Dr Gomes was a great nationalist and a true patriot having represented Goans in Parliament.
PWD Minister Churchill Alemao said Digambar Kamat government is working for the common man of the state. “With the support of the Chief Minister, a lot of development projects have been taken up in the state by the PWD and RDA departments”, he said.
He underlined the need to lay sewerage network in Goa, adding that Navelim and Margao constituencies will soon be connected to the sewerage network.
Foundation stone for the Dr Francis Luis Gomes district library was laid on the eve of the 2007 Assembly polls in the presence of former Chief Minister, Luizinho Faleiro and present Chief Minister Digambar Kamat.
The building has been built by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation, while the Art and Culture department has assumed the responsibility of running and the maintenance of the library.
