PANJIM: With Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s star on the ascent and Modi fever in the air ahead of BJP’s national executive meeting, the Congress party picked an opportunity to fire at him, equating him with Hitler and Combodian Communist dictator Pol Pot.

Shantaram Naik, representing Congress in Rajya Sabha, hastened to add that the Congress party does not propose to interfere in the internal affairs of BJP but could not refrain from commenting on the attitude and style of Modi’s functioning.

“I am compelled to stress that India cannot allow rulers like Hitler and Pol Pot to take roots in the country and destroy democratic institutions and social fabric,” he told a press conference.

“Modi pretends to be what is actually not…sheds crocodile tears. There was state terrorism (referring to 2002 Godhra riots) and there are demands to project him as Prime Minister Candidate for 2014 Lok Sabha elections,” he argued.

Continuing his tirade against Modi, the senior Congress leader questioned when he is unwelcome in foreign countries how will he bring investments to India, if he is made the PM.

“A person who cannot get visa from US, a country which is friendly with India, how can he get investments here? He has support from a small portion of NRIs there,” he said.

“A charge -sheeted man (Amit Shah) in a murder case is in charge of UP elections indicates that BJP is insulting and underestimating the people of Uttar Pradesh. He was appointed in UP at the behest of Modi,” he added.

The MP also targeted Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for supporting Modi for the topmost position. He went on to call him “Chota Modi.”

“He (Parrikar) highlighting Modi’s work (on TV channels interview) was shocking and it is a shame to the State, and he (Parrikar) proposed Modi as PM candidate,” he stated.

The party also hinted that BJP was giving priority to Modi and sidelining veteran BJP leader L K Advani.

The Rajya Sabha MP recalled Parrikar’s interview to a local media wherein he compared Advani to old rancid pickle.
