PANJIM, JAN 26
While more class four workers have been recruited by the government for Goa Medical College (GMC) & Hospital in the two-three years, those working on “contract basis” for ten years and more for a paltry salary of Rs 5700 have not been considered for confirmation in services despite of several assurances in the past.
About hundred odd contract labourers of GMC who have put in at least seven-eight years of service protested today demanding that they be inculcated into regular services immediately.
Anisha Naik, General Secretary of the Union, said though the government had promised them that they would be regularised into services, nothing has been done so far. “ Some of us have been working on contract basis for the past ten and more years, “ said Anisha Naik.
Another contract worker, Rajendra Gawandi complaint that they receive no facilities even as they get paid Rs 5700 a month. Total 208 working in GMC as sweepers were appointed through Goa Recruitment and Employment Labour Contract Society during BJP regime.
Their services have been continued nothing concrete has been done to absorb them in service after so many years.
In July 2009, in a meeting held under Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane it was decided to draw a road map to absorb 208 workers in regular service within definite time limit by giving them concession in age and educational criteria.
However, Rajendra Gawandi complaint that none of the 208 have been regularised so far while more workers in class four category has been recruited in GMC in the two-three years.
