Right from Patradevi in Pernem taluka to Polem in Canacona or Molem in Dharbandora to Mormugao or Panjim, Goa is in a state of digging.
The state has started undertaking works of more than Rs 15,000 cr despite having a debt burden of equal amount.
However, this seems to have been possible due to active backing from the Centre as almost all works are being undertaken under central schemes, especially Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways.
Be it the new greenfield airport at Mopa, the Zuari Bridge, Talpona-Galgibaga bridge, Khandepar bridge, four / six laning of National Highways 17 and NH4A, everything has been funded by Centre and work is going on at a rapid pace.
Mopa is a Greenfield airport being built at Mopa in Pernem taluka.
GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL), a special purpose vehicle (SPV), will develop the airport.
The Rs 3250 cr airport will be built under the Build Operate Transfer (BOT) model in three phases, with the first phase, costing Rs 1,500 crore, expected to be completed by financial year 2019-20.
The concession period for the Greenfield project will be 40 years with a possible extension of another 20 years through a bid process.
The airport will cater to 4.4 million passengers in the first phase and 13.1 million by the end of the fourth phase.
The project will operate on hybrid till model with 30% cross subsidy and the concession offers 232 acres of land for commercial city side development for a period of 60 years.
(Rs 485 cr), Centre (Rs 350 cr)
The Mandovi Bridge is a bridge between towns Panjim and Porvorim, in Goa. It carries the NH 17 over the tidal part of the Mandovi River.
The first and second bridges are multiple span beam bridges and the third is a cable-stayed bridge which is under construction. It has a total length of 3,771 metres.
On June 14, 2014, the foundation stone for the third Mandovi Bridge was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The third bridge will be cable stayed bridge constructed between the first and second parallel bridges which will be spanning over 3 kms and would be 15 metres higher than the existing two bridges.
The third bridge will be designed and constructed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T). The bridge will be a 900-mt four-lane bridge with a 550-m cable stay portion and a 3.2 km viaduct approach.
Another flyover arising from the Merces-Old Goa bypass road will join the Mandovi bridge for traffic from Ponda to go towards Margao. The revised cost of construction of the particular bridge being built is Rs 860 crore and the cost could increase by Rs 50 crore.
The Centre has recently given in-principle approval for a grant of Rs 350 cr. The project was earlier undertaken by the state with finance from NABARD.
If there was ever a need for a new bridge in Goa it was across River Zuari as the old bridge seems to be in bad condition and experts have been raising doubts time and again.
The State PWD is constructing the Four/Six Lane Bridge including approach roads across River Zuari (NH-17) (Panjim–Margao Section) on PPP Model. It is a connectivity of existing NH 17 via Goa Velha bypass through Panjim to North Goa.
The tremendous traffic growth in existing bridge has forced a new construction of 4/6-lane bridge.
Dilip Buildcon Limited (DBL), a leading engineering procurement construction (EPC) company, is constructing the entire stretch of the Zuari Bridge from Siridao to Verna.
Dilip Buildcon has joined hands with a Ukrainian-based company, Mostobudivelnyi Zahin Limited (MBZ), with a 70% and 30% stake, to construct the cable-stayed bridge. MBZ has experience in construction of cable suspension bridges and will be the technical partner to Dilip Buildcon for the project.
Cost – Rs 2000 cr (north Goa)
After years of planning the four/ six lanning of National Highway has been taken up with the help of central funding.
M Venkata Rao Infra Pvt Ltd (MVR) and Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd-JV will build the 42.9 km National Highway 17 (NH66) from Patradevi to Bambolim.
The NH17 from Patradevi to Bambolim will be taken up in two sections -- Patradevi to Karaswada and Karaswada to Bambolim at a total cost of nearly Rs 2000 crore.
The package is still being finalised and should be completed soon.
The four-laning is a part of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and highways' plan to widen NH-17 (NH 66) from Panvel to Kanyakumari.
Contractor – M Venkatrao Infra Projects Private Ltd.
The work on the Canacona National Highway 17 bypass road, which is a stretch of 7.74 kilometres from Char-Rasta to Maxem junction, is in full swing.
Work on the three bridges, one each at Talpona, Galgibaga and Maxem will be completed by June 2018.
The work was started in January 2016 by Andhra Pradesh-based M Venkatrao Infra Projects Private Ltd..
With the completion of the bypass route, the distance from Char Rasta to Maxem via Galgibaga will be cut short by 10 kilometres
The 110-metre long RCC bridge will connect Usgao to Khandepar. The bridge will have two spans of 28m each and two spans of 25m each and will have three piers in the river. The project includes widening of the approach roads. On the Ponda side, the widening will stretch up to Safa Masjid. The total project length is seven kilometres.
The project will include construction of two underpasses, one near Opa and one at Kerian on the Ponda side of the approach road.
The new bridge will be built about 100m away from the existing bridge, on the Opa side. The new bridge was necessitated because the existing bridge is very narrow. Barely five metres wide and two vehicles cannot pass at once over the bridge, causing traffic congestion on the route.
Besides this, the four/six lanning of National Highway 4A from Panjim to Anmod is also in the final stage of award.
The cost of the project is Rs 2000 cr.
Also, the work on Rs 50 cr Dhavali bypass is also underway.
The Dhavali four-lane bypass road has also been cleared for an estimated cost of Rs 50 crore. It goes down at Farmagudi and joins the Ponda road. The Dhavali bypass is about four kilometres long.
In Mormugao taluka too, the PWD has taken up widening of the NH17 A and NHAI has begun work on the NH17B up to MPT.
Besides, the Centre has also approved 105 km of other state and district road to the state of Goa.
Works started at Mapusa, Calangute, Margao, Colva, Navelim, Fatorda, Ponda, Curti, Bandora and Kavlem are in full swing, including a plant and pipeline at a total cost of Rs 3000 cr.
Thereafter works will begin in Bicholim, Curchorem, Cortalim, Dabolim and all internal parts of Colva and coastal areas where there are tourism important areas. This will again be Rs 2000 cr project.
