PORVORIM, AUG 12
Residents of Moira on Thursday caught red handed a person from Dhargal while allegedly attempting to rob mangalsutra of a deity in Sateri Temple at Moira.
According to reports, Salvo Ramnath Korgaonkar had gone to Sateri Temple on August 7. The poojari while closing the temple noticed the gold necklace of the deity, worth Rs 12,000, missing.
The poojari immediately brought the matter to the notice of devasthan committee members.
According to Mapusa Police, some people had noticed Salvo moving around the deity in a suspicious manner on Saturday. Hence they suspected that Salvo must have robbed the necklace. Since they did not have the proof, complaint was not lodged with the police.
Salvo again visited the temple on Thursday. A resident Abhay Raus noticed Savlo entering the temple and alerted the committee members, who kept a watch on his movements.
While Salvo was attempting to rob the mangalsutra of the deity, he was caught red handed by the devotees. He was later handed over to Mapusa Police.
Mapusa Police informed that Salvo was involved in several theft cases in the past. Recently, Anjuna Police had arrested him in the theft and forgery case. PSI S M Yerum is investigating the case.
