CALANGUTE: Calangute Police busted a timeshare racket in Calangute following a complaint by an unhappy client from Delhi and raided the office premises of a company, claiming to be affiliated to a leading timeshare company.
According to Calangute Police, the affiliate company had agreed to a deal of Rs 1.89 lakh as the package price for a timeshare in various hotels in the country.
As part of the deal, a client, A Singh of Delhi, was asked to pay an amount of Rs 10,000 as advance fee, while the balance was to be paid in equal instalments during a 25-year period. Singh was also asked to come down to Goa for a detailed presentation at Candolim, before signing the deal.
When Singh made inquiries, he learnt that the company was not affiliated to the timeshare company. Suspecting something amiss, Singh demanded the refund of his Rs 10,000 but the staff refused to do so.
Duped of the amount, Singh lodged a complaint and a police team led by PSI Nitin Harlankar raided the affiliate company’s office at Calangute and its centre at Candolim.
The directors of the affiliate company were asked to report at the Calangute police station with relevant details for verification, while staff employees were also summoned as part of the investigations.
Police also seized equipments, including a laptop, computers, CPU, etc, from the affiliate company’s premises.
According to police sources, there are many such timeshare companies involved in promoting holiday ventures, which attract people to invest in holiday packages throughout the year.
