PORVORIM: Minister for Environment Alina Saldanha stated that the main objective of celebrating Women’s Day is to appreciate the remarkable contribution made by the women to the society.
Saldanha was speaking at a function organised by BJP Mahila Morcha in association with Jagruti Women’ Welfare Association at Porvorim.
“A woman of today is by no means inferior to man. She has excelled in every field of activity, but she is not being treated on par with man which is a sorry state of affairs,” said Saldanha.
Saldanha further stated that a woman is the epitome of love, sacrifice, care and ability to nurture life. She plays the role of mother, sister and wife in the society. “Women down the ages were not given their due respects yet they went on without complaints. It is high time that society recognizes the importance of women in society and grants them equal status in all fields of activities,” added Saldanha.
Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar stated that International Women’ Day is the day for introspection. “The women have proved beyond any shadow of doubt, they are equal to men in every field. The time has come for the society to change their mindsets and pave way for the growth of the women,” added Parulekar.
BJP Mahila Morcha President Kunda Chodanker, Govind Parvatkar, Kishor Asnodkar and Guruprasad Pawasker also spoke on the occasion.
On the occasion, Barbara Devidas, Pranjali Shirodkar, Dr Othlia Mascarenhas, Dr Roopa Apte, Gracy Sequeira, Anjani Shirodker, Lea Rodrigues, Ujwala Achrekar and Kusum Kamat were felicitated by chief guest President. Kirti Asnodkar compered the programme.
