World Cancer Day observed
PANJIM: On World Cancer Day, Manipal Hospitals as part of Manipal Health Enterprises, took a pledge to raise awareness and educate the masses on importance of early detection and the right treatment to fight cancer. Unit Head, Dr Sachin Jain, HOD Oncology Dept, Dr Shekhar Salkar and consultant radiation oncologist, Dr Shubha Jyothy were present at the ceremony, as also was Sonal Pahwa. Cancer survivors shared their experiences. A ‘Pledge Tree’ was also launched to signify collective fight against cancer. For this initiative Manipal Hospitals and Goa Cancer Society has joined hands to provide financial assistance for treatment of cancer patients who are residing in Goa.
St Alphonsa and St Sebastian feast
PANJIM: The Syro Malabar Catholic Church in Goa will celebrate the feasts of St Alphonsa and St Sebastian on February 8, at the Pilar Mission Seminary. The celebration will start at 8.30 am with the veneration of the saints. The Novena and the Eucharistic celebration will commence at 10.15 am. Mar Raphael Thattil, the Apostolic Visitator of the Syro Malabar Church will be the main celebrant. The Eucharistic celebration will be followed by a procession and a fellowship meal.
Mass for workers in city on Feb5
PANJIM: The Holy Eucharist will be celebrated for Catholic workers on February 5, at Mary Immaculate Church, Panjim at 1.15 pm. This mass is being organized by Directorate of Transport, Panjim. A priest will be available for confessions from 12.30 pm.
Creative arts workshop for teachers
PANJIM: The Nirmala Institute of Education will organise a 3-day creative arts skills in-service training workshop, in two batches, February 20, 21 and 28 or February 26, 27 and March 7, from 9.30 am to 4 pm. The sessions have been designed for elementary school teachers (up to Class VII). Each batch will consist of 25 participants. The resource person is Liz Kemp, artist and facilitator based in Scotland. Liz has also initiated, developed and facilitated a wide range of interactive visual art and mixed media projects in the UK, USA, Africa and Asia. Interested schools may depute only one teacher for the workshop. Last date for registration is February 14.
PANJIM: Captain of Ports has informed that the Tug Transtar will tow JB-III from Panjim Port outer anchorage to Mandovi Road Bridge through Aguada Sand bar on February 4, from 8 am. The towing operation is expected to be complete by Noon. All owners/master of barges, passenger launches, ferry boats, tindels of fishing trawlers and operators of mechanized and non mechanized crafts, plying in River Mandovi are advised to keep a lookout, navigate with extreme caution and if necessary stop at a safe distance so as not to cause any hindrance to the safe passage of the tug.
Melawa at Rawanfond temple
MARGAO: The Margao unit of Akhil Gomantak Kshatriya Maratha Samaj will have a melava at Shantadurga temple, Rawanfond on February 8 at 10 am. The melava has been organised to bring together members of the community hailing from South Goa and staying in Margao and Navelim. President of the samaj Mahesh Gaonkar along with vice-president Sandeep Desai will attend the conference. The melava is being coordinated by an organising committee comprising of president Tulsidas Desai, vice-president Ulhas Tuemkar, Jt secretary Prashant Shetye and Govind Desai.
