Boat festival at Majorda today
PANJIM: Just as the villagers of Siolim have their Sangodd and Divadkars their Bonderam, the parishioners of Majorda used to make traditional boats entirely of palm leaves. Mainly two villages, Majorda and Calata, used to make these boats laden with flowers and take them to the Mother of God Church on September 8, the birthday of Mother Mary. These traditional decorated palm leaves boats will be on display for the second consecutive year on September 8, at the Majorda Church compound.
iCONGO confederation in State in Nov
PANJIM: International Confederation of NGOs (iCONGO) will organise a mega event – KarmaBhoomi National Mission for Oneess in Goa on November 26. This event is to train and educate students, teachers, parents and the general public to perform and fulfil the fundamental duties and rights as enshrined in the Constitution. The iCONGO will be held in partnership with Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Ministry of HRD and the UN together with state governments, local bodies, school and college managements, NGOs, corporates, media and others. 
AGM held at St Britto HS Mapusa
PANJIM: The annual general Body meeting at St Britto High School, Mapusa was held on August 9 for the primary section and on August 23 for the secondary section. Both the meetings were well attended by the parents. The guest speaker Suzana De Souza the coordinator of Childline Caritas Goa addressed the parents of the primary students and spoke on parent-child relationship and precautions that parents need to keep in mind. Basil Agnelo currently working on voluntary basis with Lights of the World Movement in Goa addressed the parents of the secondary section and spoke on upbringing and future career of a child. The PTA felicitated all the 36 students that obtained distinctions in the SSC. Gold medalist in the All India Aquatic meet in the under 14 free style, Jerry D’Mello was given a memento as a token of appreciation. Fr Cedric Fernandes, headmaster, thanked the parents. 
Brian bags best comedian award
PANJIM: Brian Fernandes, a youth from Carmona Salcete, is selected for the Best Youth Comedy Artist Award for the year 2013-14, of the Good Shepherd organization. Brian started acting at the age of 13 and has acted in more than 24 dramas and in VCDs and has also sung on audio CDs. He has won other awards too. The panel of judges selected the award of the Good Shepherd organisation. Commenting on the award, Brian said he is happy and advised today’s youth to showcase their talent in acting and that he wants to make others happy even if he is sad.
Album Gumot Vazon Nach release 
PANJIM: Ivor is releasing his new Konkani music album Ghumot Vazoun Nach on September 8, on the feast of Mother Mary, Moti Fest. This is Ivor’s fifth album. Ivor D'Cunha is a devoted artist and lover of Konkani and Goa's culture. He sings, acts and also writes lyrics and script for tiatr. He also does mimicry or comic roles. The making of Ghumot Vazoun Nach was underway for the past two years. Ivor has penned the lyrics, defined the themes for each track and crafted the notes. This album has a customized music melody and also features the mando, dulpod and dekhni. Roshan D’Souza, Ignatius Rodrigues (Iggi), Acacio Pereira, Frazer Pacheco and Sidhanath Buyao have contributed to the album and the singers are Vaishali Samant, Sonia Sirsat, Lulu Fortes, Adolf Jayathilak, Acacio Pereira and Edwin Rodrigues. 
St Britto HS Mapusa wins mime contest
PANJIM: St Britto High School, Mapusa bagged the first place in the inter-school mime competition organised by St Anthony High School, Monte de Guirim. The students of the school depicted the positive and negative aspect of technology on our youth today. The 2nd place went to St Mary High School Mapusa and the 3rd was bagged by Holy Cross High school Bastora.
