Mapusa: The Mapusa Municipal Council in cooperation with Mapusa Rotaract club have set up 'Nirmalya Kalash' at 30 different spots in the city to keep the waste during Ganesh Chaturthi under control.
These pots have been put up so that people can dump their floral waste in them. The civic body has appealed to people to keep the city clean by not throwing their waste around irresponsibly.
Some of the spots include shores of Tar river, Acoi and Kuchelim where immersion ceremonies take place. This will make it convenient for people to dispose of their floral waste while immersing the Ganesh idols. The civic body has also asked people to not use the pots for any other kind of waste.
“The floral waste will then be collected and turned into manure and distributed to farmers for free. Last year, we had produced 90 kgs of manure from similar practice,” said Rotaract Club's official Mayank Karapurkar.
