No ‘jal’ for eight days in a village, in the State of ‘HAR GHAR JAL’

Thirsty villagers of Kupwada-Adnem gherao PWD officials, after taps run dry for eight days; have to walk to fetch water from a far away spring

CUNCOLIM: IN state which boasts of Har Ghar Jal (water in every house), villagers of Kupwada-Adnem village in Quepem constituency, were forced to gherao officials ofm the local water supply department as 

their taps have run dry for eight days 

Agitated with no water in their taps for the last eight days, residents of , marched up to the Quepem Water Supply Department office on Wednesday and grilled the officials for not resolving the water supply problem.

The concerned officer promised to inspect the site and find out the exact reason for the problem and solve it on a war footing.

Kupwada village has about 60-70 houses. It has a history of water crises. SInce the last week, the locals have suffered due to lack of water supply. Due to this, the villagers are forced to get water from a far away spring.

The villagers claimed that water is being supplied to Kavere village and hence they are deprived of regular water supply. 

Local panch member Mahendra Gaonkar and villagers explained their problems regarding irregular water supply to PWD Water Supply Division Officer, Prashant Kamat. The villagers demanded that the water supply should be restored. But the PWD official said that they had no information about the crisis. However, he promised to visit the site personally and find a solution to the problem.

Local resident Rupesh Gaonkar told Kamat alleged that due to some political interference, the water is being diverted to another place, due to which there is now a water shortage in the village.

"We are not opposed to giving water to others, but we should have a smooth water supply," he said. 

Gaonkar said, "We discussed the matter with the concerned authority and he has promised to resolve the issue." After getting assurance from Kamat, the villagers left the PWD office, but warned of renewed agitation if their problem was not solved.
