PANJIM: Old Goa Police on Saturday seized three trucks involved in illegal sand extraction from separate locations.
PI Jivba Dalvi informed that they received a tip off regarding the illegal transportation of sand in the area of Old Goa based on which teams were formed and three raids were conducted in the early hours of Saturday at Gandaulim bridge, Carambolim and Neura junction.
Three trucks bearing registration numbers GA-03-N-0341, GA-01-T-8729, and GA-09-U-3180, laden with sand were seized during the raid. The amount of the extracted sand is estimated at around Rs 30,000, PI informed.
“A report is being submitted to the JMFC Panjim under Sections 38 R/w 62(2) of Goa Minor Minerals Concessions Rule. The Department of Mines & Geology is also informed about the seizure. The drive against the illegal sand transporters will continue,” he said. The police have however not revealed about the arrest of accused, if any.
