PORVORIM: Tagging Goa as “drug paradise”, the opposition on Thursday charged that the drugs are freely available outside the premises of Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) and also Cujira school complex hub, Bambolim.

Participating in the discussion on Budget, the Opposition also accused the BJP-led government for fomenting a negative mindset and spreading the agenda of hatred among tourists.

“Goa was once considered the safest destination for tourists. But today, it is a drug paradise …it is also known as a casino city and there is also complete collapse of law and order,” Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao told the House.

“Crime related to drugs is on rise. Drugs have spread in the hinterlands…you find it outside GMC…Cujira complex…I don’t think we get it  outside this complex (Assembly) as there is police security,” he added.

Alemao said that when the State is talking about greater push to tourism in its State Budget, the government is bent upon fomenting a negative mindset and agenda of hatred, conflict and contradiction.

In the speech, the Opposition Leader also raised apprehension with regards to resumption of iron ore mining activities within five years.

“The biggest question is whether mining will start before the end of our five year term,” he said.
