PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Thursday said that the party follows a procedure and a system to decide on the candidates and that no one has right to declare themselves as party candidates from any constituency.
Referring to some senior party leaders declaring their candidature for the next Assembly elections, Tanavade told media persons that when elections are announced, the party will constitute its Pradesh Election Committee, which will shortlist candidates and send the list to the party’s Parliamentary Board, to decide and declare the names of candidates.
Tanavade advised the party members and aspirants to refrain from announcing their own candidature for the ensuing elections. If anyone has already done that then the BJP will not endorse it, he said reiterating that nobody has the right to announce their own candidature.
“There is a difference between those aspiring for party tickets and those announcing oneself as candidate,” Tanavade said.
Meanwhile, the BJP State unit will observe Black Day on June 25, to mark the anniversary of Emergency imposed by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi government in 1975.
To mark the day, the party will organise a talk by former Goa Assembly Speaker Rajendra Arlekar through virtual mode at 5.30 pm. Also those who were jailed during Emergency will be honoured by the party.
