CALANGUTE: In recent weeks, Baga Beach has turned out to be a preferred destination, especially for the people from North Goa, who venture into the waters for a summertime dip, which they claim serves as a ‘health booster’.
According to Pandurang Mayekar from Valpoi, a summertime dip in the sea at Baga Beach saves money on going to the doctor.
“It’s good for health. Otherwise you have to spend on doctors. A lot of people come to Baga,” said Mayekar, who makes it a point to come once a year for his rendezvous with the Arabian Sea.
A summertime dip in the sea lowers his blood pressure, Sitaram Pednekar from Dhargal said. Asked whether his doctor advised him on this, he said, “No, but you can feel the difference. When you bathe in the seawater, the blood, which is clogged, starts flowing.”
“It invigorates the body and improves blood circulation. Coming and having a bath of seawater at Baga has become a habit for us over the years,” said Babal Gadekar from Velguem.
Baga-Calangute is the perennial favourite, they said. “Earlier, there used to be few people in Baga,” Pednekar said about the changes over the years. “Now there are more people. But the surroundings have improved, there are benches to sit. A lot of good hotels have come up,” he said.
He, however, comes with a packed lunch from home. “The food in these hotels is for the rich people. Everything is expensive,” he said.
Earlier, he and his family would come and spend a couple of days at Baga.
