PANJIM: Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar has accused unknown miscreants of hacking his mobile phone, after a porn video reportedly circulated through his mobile number went viral on Sunday night.

On Monday, he filed a complaint with the Crime Branch (CB) alleging criminal hacking/tempering of his phone number and uploading and transmitting obscene material in his name.

He stated that the video posted on a WhatsApp group named ‘Villages of Goa’ was done with criminal intention to harm his image. “I would like to file a complaint against some miscreants who have sent a video containing obscene material to one of the groups named ‘Villages of Goa’ on WhatsApp. The ‘Said’ video was sent to this aforesaid WhatsApp group where I was one of the members and it was intentionally masked in my name with some criminal intention,” reads his complaint copy.

He further mentioned that he was fast asleep when the obscene material was sent on the group. “There have been many such attempts in the recent history to defame my name and project a wrong image of me in front of the public. I demand strong action against all such miscreants and unscrupulous individuals who have criminally hacked/tempered with my mobile phone and uploaded and transmitted obscene material,” he said.

Meanwhile, Goa Forward Party (GFP) took quick cognizance of the development and lodged a complaint against Kavlekar before the Women’s Police State demanding First Information Report (FIR) against him. The party has alleged that with the alleged offence, Kavlekar has resorted to outrage women’s image and sexual harassment. “Such obscene activities on the part of the accused have caused irreparable mental anguish & harassment to the complainant, and therefore, the complainant is requesting this authority to investigate, take urgent action against the accused and register an FIR with respect to the offences as made out,” the complaint reads as.    The CB and the WPS have confirmed receiving complaints from the respective complainants and have launched preliminary inquiry.

Meanwhile, members of Goa Pradesh Congress have filed a complaint with Panjim Police Station on Monday evening, seeking swift action against Deputy Chief Minister, Babu Chandrakant Kavlekar.

Underlining the fact that such actions lead to corruption and depravity of people, Pratibha Borkar, Devsurabhee Yaduvanshi and Socorro Menezes emphasized that the brazen nature of the said act by Kavlekar is not acceptable for a person holding public office. They have demanded his immediate arrest.
