MARGAO: Prasad Naik has been elected as the new President of the South Goa Advocates Association (SGAA).
Elections for the new SGAA Managing Committee for the Biennial term from May 1, 2022 till April 30, 2024 were held on Friday.
Shraddha Borkar was elected as the Vice-President, Roheet Shirodkar as the Secretary and Chuvo Barbosa as the Treasurer. Anju Amonkar was elected as the Quepem member on the committee, Adv Prashant Borkar as the Margao member, Kunal Komarpant as the Canacona member, Sudhir Naik as the Vasco member, Kashinath Dessai as the Sanguem Member, and Asthrid Almeida as the Female member.
Speaking to Herald about the priorities of the new managing committee, Naik, who incidentally was the former secretary of SGAA in the past, listed out his six-point agenda vision.
“The first is to constitute various sub committees to assist the managing committee, including a grievance committee comprising of senior advocates to resolve any grievance received from members,” said Naik.
He also wants to update the new law library and provide online access to case law and legal research, including wi-fi facility in the ‘Bar’ room.
Other plans include conducting interactive sessions on various law topics for new advocates so that they can interact with senior advocates, organizing regular seminars.
and starting a contingency fund to provide quick relief to any advocate that may need the same.
Finally, SGAA will be organising a health checkup and fitness programme for the advocates.
Silvano Estibeiro was the chairman of the election committee while Brenda Cana and Anirudh Salkar were the other two members.
