PANJIM: Unhealthy and poor quality food served at the mess of the Goa University hostel has upset the students, with unions demanding that quality safe and nutritious food be served immediatly.

Following complaints of maggots found in the food in the hostel mess, a delegation of students met University authorities and urged them to improve the quality of food.

A delegation of National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Tuesday called upon Secretary (Higher Education) Prasad Lolayekar and sought his intervention in providing quality food to students of Goa University.

NSUI State president Naushad Chaudhary said that they have asked to provide quality food in mess, that too without increasing rates. “We had brought the incident of maggots found in food of Goa University mess to concerned authorities. Now we have requested the government to provide quality food by keeping a check on it,” he said.

Chaudhary said that the presence of maggots in the food served to students recently  has highlighted a significant breach in food safety standards and posing serious health risks to the student population.
