Rainfall breaches 100-inch mark, IMD issues heavy rainfall warning till Friday

The total seasonal rainfall for Goa, recorded to date, is 102.8 inches (2,612.1 mm) with a deficit of 8.2 per cent.

PANJIM: After slipping into a month-long weak phase, the monsoon picked up the pace with heavy rainfall in the last month of the season.  Goa’s total rainfall has breached the 100-inch mark. 

The total seasonal rainfall for Goa, recorded to date, is 102.8 inches (2,612.1 mm) with a deficit of 8.2 per cent. On average, till this time, the State records 111.9 inches (2,844.4 mm) of rain. 

The deficit is attributed to the long dry spell in August, which received only 14.5 inches (368.9 mm) of rain. June ended with nine per as well, with a total of 75.6 mm (2.97 inches). However, the monsoon picked up in July, which ended with a nine per cent surplus with 46.10 inches (1,171 mm) of rainfall.  The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for the State till September 16, with squally weather and wind speeds of 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph along the south Maharashtra-Goa coast.
