PANJIM: In the wake of heavy rains and the red alert issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa, the Directorate of Education on Sunday announced holiday for educational institutions from Nursery to Class XII on Monday, July 15.
Speaking to O Heraldo, Director of Education Shailesh Zingade said, “Earlier I had told that it was discretional for the school managements to declare holiday in case of water logging. But it was decided to declare holiday from Nursery to Class XII as heavy rains with winds are expected tomorrow. We are not taking any risk.”
The IMD has extended the red alert issued till July 15.
This is the second holiday declared by the Directorate of Education for the schools in view of the heavy rains.
Earlier, in view of the incessant rain and alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa, predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across the State, and keeping in mind the safety of young children in the schools, the Directorate of Education had declared a holiday for school students and teachers from Class I to XII on July 8.
