PORVORIM: Congress legislator Aleixo Sequeira has demanded that South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) be named after Fr Joao De Miranda as the House discussed demands for grants for the Health sector.

"Hospicio hospital has played an important role in rendering health services to Goans. This was opened and was an initiative of Margao-born priest Rev Fr Joao De Miranda whose heart was ablaze with love and compassion for his people who were dying in the streets and footpaths in and around Margao. He was supported from all walks of life," Sequeira said as he began his speech discussing about the health facilities in South Goa.

The legislator said that prior to opening of the SGDH, Hospicio grew to the size of catering to 1,500 beds “which I think is a great initiative”.

While pointing out the thevisionary priest initiated the health services in South Goa, the Nuvem MLA demanded that the SGDH be named after Fr Miranda.

He also sought that the chapel inside the premises be maintained and looked after by the Church.
