VASCO: The process to move the Urban Health Centre, Vasco, to the Sub-District Hospital at Chicalim which has begun, has unsettled locals. The shifting, they apprehend, will cause inconvenience to the patients residing nearby and they will have to travel an extra mile, literally, to address their health issues.
Urban Health Centre, Vasco, is located in the prime locality of the town, which is convenient for most people. There is one doctor and around 11 health workers who perform duties such as tending to complaints related to sewage, arogya card of labourers, issuing NOCs to various commercial establishments, taking steps to combat the spread of malaria and dengue etc. Given the location of the Centre, it was convenient for the patients from both Mormugao and Vasco constituencies, to visit it. If the centre is shifted to Sub-District Hospital, at Chicalim, the patients will have to travel the extra distance.
“Since it is an urban health centre, it makes sense for it to stay in the urban area,” a local said.
