MARGAO: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) had decided that the result of the repeater candidates registered for March-April 2020-21 SSC and HSSC examination shall be based on internal assessment scheme, besides an option is given to them to appear for the supplementary examination as scheduled earlier.
GBSHSE Secretary Geraldina L Mendes, on Wednesday, issued a circular in this regard to all the heads of recognised secondary and higher secondary schools. On the other hand, Nationalist Congress Party and the students' community have welcomed the said decision.
It may be recalled that nearly 850 students of Class XII had urged the Board to scrap the supplementary exams scheduled on August 18 and 19 and to declare their result under the internal assessment scheme.
Goa Board has asked the head of educational institutions to take steps so as to reach marks in option one by August 21 and marks in option two by August 30.
Briefing the media persons, Nationalist Congress Party welcomed and thanked the Goa Board for the right decision.
Suhas Walwaikar of NCP said that they had raised this issue with the Goa Board, urging to apply the same scheme which is result based on internal assessment and the Board chairman was kind enough to hear the grievances of the students.
"There are nearly 850 repeaters of Class XII who were very much upset due to the supplementary examinations scheduled on August 18 and 19, as they had no time to prepare. Hence, we had demanded that these students be promoted based on their internal assessment," he stated.
Suhas further said that Goa Board not only agreed to prepare the result under the internal assessment scheme but has also given an option to answer the supplementary examination for Class XII, besides SSC, pending the declaration of the result.
Welcoming the said decision Yashpal Raikar of NCP said that these students should not be discriminated against during the admission time.
"Goa Board should also look into the admission issue of these students when they apply for the same", he urged.
Franky D'Mello, President Nuvem Block of NCP also welcomed the decision and said that justice has been done to the students who were confused and upset due to the examinations.
