MARGAO: Residents who live along the Abade Faria Road in Margao have complained about the condition of the street in front of their houses and around the Civil court nearby.

The first issue was with the street’s ever-rising height.

“The road is tarred without first removing the existing layer.  The result is visible to anyone. In front of some houses, the elevation is so high that it’s extremely dangerous to get in and out. Elderly residents are stuck indoors.  The next time the PWD tars the road, it is imperative that the many layers underneath are removed first before adding a new layer of tar, so that the road is slightly lower than the pavement,” said the residents.

They are also upset with PWD’s ‘unfinished work’.

“At the end of the Abade Faria Road, as it turns onto the street that houses the Civil Court, the PWD had started to cover the roadside gutter with cement blocks, two years ago. Today, this work still stands incomplete and poses a danger at this left turn,” said the residents

“In addition to the number of people that trip and fall into the uncovered part of the gutter due to the one-way traffic speeding around the turn, this steep drop into the gutter has also seen many scooters, bikes and even cars come crashing into the boundary walls of the houses here. There’s also a pile of rubble and mud left along the road that has not yet been cleared by the PWD,” they added.
