Social welfare office in south updates its website after Herald highlights the issue

Herald Team

MARGAO: Changes have been seen on the Directorate of Social Welfare website from Wednesday after Herald highlighted the issues surrounding the website and the South Goa office.

It may be recalled that Herald had highlighted the issues surrounding the Social Welfare Office in South Goa collectorate. The department has now updated the names of Secretary, Social Welfare Government of Goa: S K Bhandari, IAS, Director Umeshchandra Joshi. The District Welfare Officer (South) contact number too has been updated.

It is surprising that the department doesn't have a gov.in email address and is using a rediffmail email ID for official communication.

The South Goa office continues to be absent from the website although it is located on the ground floor at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex Margao and the District Welfare Officer for South Goa.

Since the landline wires have been reportedly eaten by rats which are plenty in the Collectorate, the telephone number for the South Goa office is absent in the Government Telephone Directory.

Roland Martins of GOACAN once again requested the department and the heads to ensure that the deficiencies are removed to make sure the widows, elders and the differently abled are not inconvenienced during availing services of the department.
