PORVORIM: After traders continued transact illegal business along the roadside despite being warned several times, the Socorro Panchayat led by Sarpanch Soniya Pednekar on Thursday sealed nine shops along the CHOGM Road and seized goods too.
The sarpanch warned to initiate action against other shopkeepers if they failed to obtain permits within a month.
“The shopkeepers along the CHOGM Road were asked to legalise their establishments by obtaining licences. However, the panchayat had to initiate action as they failed to comply with the rules. They have been told to pay the fees and obtain licences in order to resume their business,” Pednekar.
Panchas Rajan Parsekar, Gauri Valvaikar, Ashley Lobo, Sarvesh Halarnakar, Sachi Manjrekar, Sani Shetgaonkar and Secretary Satish Gawas were also present during the drive.
