PANJIM: Within just 24 hours of installing the speed radar on Atal Setu Bridge, the Goa Police, on Wednesday, recorded around 3,000 violations of over-speeding.
The above violations were recorded from Tuesday evening to Wednesday evening on the flagship bridge across the Mandovi.
Superintendent of Police (SP), Traffic Cell, Bossuet Silva said that currently, the speed radar has been made active on the bridge on a trial basis and added that soon the Traffic Cell will start booking people for over-speeding.
He informed that the speed limit on the said bridge is 40 kilometres per hour and the fine for over-speeding is Rs 3,000.
SP Silva said that for the trial run, the speed radar has been installed on both sides of the Atal Setu, which also clearly captures the vehicle registration number even during the night.
Similar speed radars will be made active at other places in Panjim including at Merces Circle.
“Today a speed radar was deployed for trials on Atal Setu. Motorists should avoid indulging in over-speeding,” Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh tweeted.
It is pertinent to note that artificial intelligence (AI) CCTV cameras have been installed under the Smart City Mission at some of the traffic signals in Panjim and Porvorim, which can capture traffic violations like signal jumping and over speeding.
