ANJUNA: Nidhin Valsan, Superintendent of Police (SP) North Goa on Monday informed that special Anti Narcotics and forensic teams have been formed to monitor and detect drug-related activities at Sunburn venue.
“We have been very strict with regards to drugs. Action has been initiated and compared to last year; cases and recoveries are high this year. Specifically for Sunburn, a Special Anti Narcotics team will be present all over the venue and area which will ensure that no peddling or sales of drugs happens. We also have detention kits where a special forensic team will ensure and check whether somebody has arrived at the spot after consumption. We will have random checks and a dedicated separate team will carry out the testing”, the SP said.
Valsan further said if anybody after consuming drugs came to the venue, an immediate drug detention and medical check-up will be carried out.
“Consumption itself is an offence so if anything as such comes to our notice we will take necessary legal action. No way will we be lenient with regards to drug-related cases”, the SP warned.
On sound regulations, the SP said, “We have already issued directions to organisers of the event that they should follow all the rules and regulations as far as the sound is concerned. They are also asked to take permission from the authorities concerned. We expect that they will follow the directions.”
Valsan informed that they have not received any specific instructions from the Health Department with regards to COVID regulations.
Traffic Police and local police are working as a single unit to ensure the smooth movement of traffic.
“We are getting ready for the New Year celebration and this is the time when maximum tourists come to Goa. Goa Police is well equipped and prepared”, the SPadded.
