PANJIM: Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate once again said that there is no need of CCTV cameras in the capital city as the basic infrastructure is crumbling.

Speaking to the reporters, Monserrate said that the CCTVs at the cost of Rs 180 crore, is an absurd idea.

“The basic infrastructure is crumbling and we need CCTVs for Rs 180 crore to see what people falling?” he asked. Further, Monserrate said that Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL), which is special purpose vehicle for Smart City projects can work under the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (GSIDC), which has technical expertise.

“There is no need of so many technical cells in IPSCDL as can work under GSIDC for tendering and contracts. The GSIDC has better expertise,” he said.

Monserrate said that the Chief Minister will hold a meeting to streamline the projects on November 18.

“St Inez nullah, Panjim market etc are priority,” Monserrate said.

The Panjim MLA said that the Smart City projects need to be rethought.

“I can assure you that all roads will be repaired by January,” he said.
