State gears up for Revolution Day

Panjim: The Goa government has geared up its machinery to celebrate the Goa Revolution Day on June 18. To mark the celebration various functions will be held in major cities of Panjim, Margao and Ponda where the preparations for the celebration are in full swing.

 At the main function to be held at Martyrs Memorial at Azad Maidan, Panjim Governor Mridula Sinha along with Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar , Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly Rajendra Arlekar, Cabinet Ministers, Leader of Opposition Pratapsingh Rane, Freedom Fighters and other dignitaries  will pay tributes to the memory of the martyrs and freedom fighters.
On her arrival at the venue of the function the Governor will be received by Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police.
On the occasion the Governor and Chief Minister will address the people and will also  release laminated colour freedom fighter’s registration Certificate. Shyamsundar Nagvekar, President of Goa, Daman and Diu Freedom Fighters Association, Panjim and Chandrakant S. Kenkre, President of Freedom Fighters Association Goa, Ponda will express their views. 
The Governor, Chief Minister and other dignitaries will place wreaths at the martyr’s memorial and pay homage.
The Police Guard of honour will pay compliments to the martyrs memorial whereas the choir group of Bal Bhavan will sing national anthem.
Minister for Fisheries Avertano Furtado will be the Chief Guest  for the District level function to be held at Lohia Maidan, Margao,  where he  along with other Ministers and Freedom Fighters will place wreaths at martyrs memorial and offer tributes. He will also address the gathering.
Minister for PWD Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavlikar will be the Chief Guest for the function to be held at Kranti Maidan, Ponda.  The function will be attended by the local MLA Lavoo Mamlatdar, Freedom Fighters and other dignitaries.
The necessary transport arrangement is also made for freedom fighters for the Goa Revolution Day. The bus bearing No. GA-03-X-0458 will be parked near “Hutatma Chowk” Mapusa at 7.45 am on June 18, to collect the Freedom Fighters from Mapusa and proceed to Panjim to attend the function at Azad Maidan at 8.45 am. After the function at Azad Maidan, Panjim the buses bearing no GA-03- X -0458 and GA 03- X-0424 will be parked  near ferry wharf, Panjim to proceed to Aguada Fort for the function. Thereafter both the buses will return to Azad Bhavan at Porvorim for get together of Freedom Fighters will be organized.
