SANGUEM: For many months now, Purshottam Vaishnav, owner of a shop dealing with mobile phones and accessories in Sanguem, has welcomed a special visitor everyday - a stray calf.
The calf quietly enters the shop and sits calmly by the side of the counter, without disturbing anyone visiting the shop.
“It comes every day and sits under the fan. It has never troubled my customers, urinated or soiled the premises,” said Purshottam, adding that people were initially hesitant to enter his shop because of the calf, but are now used to it. The visits began a few months ago, when Purushottam began feeding the calf and another cow every morning – many shop owners in Sanguem feed stray cattle.
The calf has gotten so attached to his haven, that if Purshottam does not open the shop for any reason, the calf kicks the shutter for a while before leaving in a dejected manner.
Purshottam has now named the shop’s bovine mascot ‘Jay’, and the calf even responds to his name.
The customers say they do not mind Jay’s presence, with some even patting the docile calf on their way out.
