STREET VOICES: Will the law and order incidents mar tourism in North Goa tourism belt?

Herald Team

Panjim:  Of late there have been a series of incidents of violence, assault and molestation in the Bardez coastal beltWill the law and order incidents in the North Goa coastal belt have adverse impact on tourism at the beginning of the tourism season in Goa?

I don’t think that the incidents will impact tourism since day by day the law and order situation is getting worse. The domestic tourists are getting conditioned to the law and order situation in Goa. And most of the law and order situation has been created by people from outside Goa. So they are used to it. I feel that it will not affect the tourism industry much at least in North Goa because people have accepted. All this type of law and order situation is bound to happen in those areas.

The law and order situation in North Goa is very bad right now and it's only getting worse. And it is definitely going to impact tourism. Because if you see we need a lot of police there. There is hardly anyone there monitoring and patrolling that area. You can see huge crowds there, people are drunk most of the time on the roads. There are no traffic cops monitoring traffic. Law and order has totally gone out of hand there.  If the CM cannot handle this he should resign.

Going by the number of tourists who come to Goa, the tourism minister and home ministry will have to decide how to convey to the tourists that they have to follow law and order. If the tourists misbehave, they will have to be treated as per the law of the land by the enforcement authorities. There is a lot of trouble in North Goa. There is a need to find out the background of the bouncers. Have the police checked their antecedents? The police will have to monitor the bouncers since with their help many people are doing illegal business.
