VASCO: A three-year-old girl and her family were overjoyed after they were reunited on Sunday late evening. The minor was lost at the 125th Damodar Saptah fair at Vasco on Sunday.

There were some tense moments when the girl was found roaming alone at night. Concerned citizen Sanket Lotlikar saw her moving alone near a starred hotel and immediately reported to the police. Her parents had earlier complained to the police outpost that she was lost. The police immediately contacted the mother, who came to the police outpost and claimed her daughter. The girl was handed over to the family after due verification.

The minor along with her parents from Navelim had gone to the Saptah fair but lost in the crowd.

According to Vasco PI Kapil Nayak, as many as 15 children below the age of 10 had been lost during the week-long Saptah fair. But after complaints to the police outpost which, was set up near Lord Damodar temple, traced the missing children and were reunited with the family after due verification, he said.

PI Nayak opined that having an outpost on the sidelines of the Saptah fair was important because the parents could immediately approach there in case of any incidents of children missing or any crimes that occur during the fair. The police staff immediately responded to the complaints without further delay through inquiry and patrolling.

“We have been putting up an outpost every year of the Saptah fair and we also deploy a police sub-inspector (PSI) there along with 10 staff members to handle these incidents,” PI Nayak said.
