PANJIM: Trade unions from Goa will join the two-day nationwide general strike on March 28 and 29 in protest against the anti-national policies of the Central government.

The Joint Platform of Central Trade Unions met in Delhi on Tuesday to take stock of the preparations in the various States and sectors for the proposed two-day all-India strike against the `anti-worker, anti-farmer, anti-people and anti-national policies' of the Central government.

It said that emboldened by the post-poll results in five States, the BJP government at the Centre has intensified the attacks on the working people, reducing the interest rate on PF accumulations from 8.5 per cent to 8.1 per cent and sudden hike in prices of fuel and domestic LPG cylinder, CNG etc. The meeting charged that the Modi government is taking steps to implement its programmes of monetisation (PSU land bundles) but held back only because of the worsening inflation and crashing share markets.

A joint press note signed by 10 various trade union from Goa stated that the strike preparations are in full swing with joint State-level conventions, corporate sector, financial sectors including banking and insurance and unorganised workers deciding to join the strike in spite of the impending threat of ESMA (Essential Services Maintenance Act) by some of the State governments.

The meeting welcomed the reiteration by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha to observe rural bandh on March 28 and 29 and appealed to various unions at State-level labour to oppose policies of the Central government particularly the four labour codes being its glaring example.
