CANACONA: Traffic congestion seems to be a regular feature in the Chaudi market. People visiting government and other offices here park by the roadside in a haphazard manner resulting in traffic chaos.
The traffic police just take on the role of onlookers while the motorists suffer.
Chaudi market is an important place in Canacona taluka as the Mamlatdar’s office, KTC bus stand, bank and insurance offices are based here.
The place attracts local crowds especially from rural Canacona. The shops on either side of the market, narrow road and indisciplined parking all add to the blockages in the market.
“There is a some parking space available near the Kadamba bus stand but it is about 500 meters far from the market and if the barren agricultural land near Canacona municipal office is acquired then the issue can be solved,” said former Shreesthal deputy sarpanch Kisan Naik Gaonkar.
“The traffic police need to take stern action against the violators,” said Anand Naik, one of the traders in the market.
“The roads in the market are narrow as it is. Some people have encroached upon the road by erecting illegal constructions. The Canacona Municipal council needs to take action against them,” said a local on the condition of anonymity
