Two youth meet watery grave at Revora, Nanora

MAPUSA/BICHOLIM: Two youths lost their lives in tragic incidents at Revora and Nanora respectively on Sunday. Both drowned in abandoned stone quarries.

In the first incident, a 21-year-old youth drowned in an abandoned story quarry at Revorain Bardeztaluka on Sunday morning.

Raj Lotlikar, 21, a resident of Margao had gone on a picnic along with his friends when the tragedy occurred, said Colvalepolice.

Lotlikar along with his friends jumped into the quarry but he failed to return to the surface. Police stated that his friends tried frantically to look out for him but in vain. 

The police and the Mapusafire personnel rushed to the site and launched a search operation. After two failed attempts, the firemen were able to trace the body with the help of an underwater camera.

In another incident reported at the Bicholim police station, a 19-year-old Santosh Shelke drowned in a laterite quarry at Nanora. The teenager and his friends from the village had gone for a swim when the unfortunate incident occurred at around 3.30 pm. 

After frantic efforts to retrieve him turned futile, the locals informed the police at around 6.30 pm. The police along with firemen from Bicholim and Panjim removed the body with the help of an underwater camera at around 11 pm, informed Bicholim PI Rahul Naik.

After conducting panchanama in both the cases, the bodies were sent to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim for post-mortem examination.
