BICHOLIM: Aggrieved that Chowgule is employing workers of Vedanta for weighing ore, the company’s workers on Tuesday blocked ore transportation.
The workers of Chowgule Mining Company on Tuesday blocked ore transportation for employing workers of Vedanta for weighing ore.
The workers demanded that since the ore being transported is royalty paid, the company should engage its workers and not Vedanta workers.
Vedanta has started transporting e-auctioned ore from Chowgule plot at Shirgao since last few days. However, the transportation was stopped over different issues. But the same was restarted on Monday after the Supreme Court permitted transporting of ore on which royalty is paid.
But when workers of Chowgule came to know that workers of Vedanta have been engaged at the weighting scale for supervision, they stopped the transportation demanding that they be engaged at weighing scale.
“Since transporting ore is legal, Chowgule should engage its own workers for supervising,” Sainath Amonkar, a worker, said.
