MARGAO: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Sunday demanded that the IIT Goa Project ought to be developed in Melauli, Valpoi be shifted to some SEZ land that is barren.
GPCC president Girish Chodankar demanded that the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and the Valpoi MLA & Industries Minister Vishwajit Rane should take a decision to shift the IIT Goa project planned in Melauli, Valpoi to some SEZ land.
"Two lakh trees, fertile agricultural land and livelihood will be saved if the project is shifted to the SEZ land" Chodankar said.
"If you don’t stop the oppression of people by means of transfers of officials and using the police to trouble the people you will have to face the people’s flak," Girish warned.
"The Chief Minister cannot continue to be a mute spectator to the entire issue. The CM has to speak out strongly and clarify on the oppression and the project IIT Goa at Melauli," he said.
"It does not take too long to destroy a forest, but takes a long time to create one," said Girish said and added that he expects the Chief Minister and the Industries Minister to take the right decision.
