Jesus Mary Joseph Church, Nuvem, Commemorates Holy Innocents Day with Blessing of Infants

Herald Team

The Jesus Mary Joseph Church in Nuvem commemorated Holy Innocents Day on Thursday with a special mass dedicated to blessing infants. The occasion, also known as "Childermas Day," is observed annually on December 28th as part of the Church's remembrance of the tragic massacre of innocent children in Bethlehem. The Holy Innocents hold a special place as patrons for babies and young children within the Church.

Marking the fourth day in the octave of Christmas, the Church solemnly recalls the tragic event where King Herod, in an attempt to kill the infant Jesus, ordered the tragic death of all male children aged two and under in Bethlehem.

Despite the sombre historical significance, Holy Innocents Day is also embraced as a time of celebration and merrymaking, particularly for children.
