In a startling and rare incident, residents of Chennur Town in Telangana's Mancherial District were taken aback when water from a local borewell turned an unusual shade of pink, raising serious concerns about its safety for consumption and everyday use.
The peculiar incident was brought to light when Katta Srinivasachari, a resident of Chennur Town, attempted to fill water from the borewell for his morning shower. To his surprise, the water that flowed out had a distinct pink colour, prompting immediate worry about the potential risks associated with its use.
Despite hoping that the water would return to its normal colour, Srinivasachari observed that, instead, the water became even darker after running for over half an hour. Perturbed by this unusual occurrence, he grew suspicious of potential chemical contamination in the groundwater.
Srinivasachari, who typically dealt with variations in water colour due to mud or scum mixing with the underground water, found the pink hue particularly alarming. He took the initiative to document the incident and promptly informed local officials, urging them to assess the quality of groundwater in the area.
"I wake up at 4 a.m. to shower every day. The water sometimes would be brown or black due to mud or scum that mixes with underground water but returns to normalcy after spilling away the initial release from the borewell. But pink water is unusual," said Srinivasachari.
The news of this bizarre incident quickly spread, prompting concerned neighbours to gather and witness the phenomenon. The community now awaits swift action from officials to investigate the cause of the pink-coloured water and address any potential risks associated with its consumption or use.
