Review:
Being childless, after much hesitation, Menino and Maria decide to adopt Pedro, who had fled from Portugal and arrived in Goa. After adopting Pedro, the couple is blessed with two sons, Domingos (comedian Dominic) and Mergulhao (Luis Bachan).
Years later, Domingos is happily married, while Mergulhao, as a bachelor, has settled in Mumbai. But every time he makes a trip to Goa, he puts up in his brother’s house.
Mergulhao’s sole intention is to drive away Pedro Portuguez and sell the ancestral house to a builder. But after the death of Menino and Maria, Pedro Portuguez wishes to safeguard the house for posterity.
What steps does Mergulhao take to fulfil his wicked plan? Will he find a good lawyer to fight the case? What is the end result?
Tiatr ‘Pedro Portuguez’ is all about the fight to preserve the little that’s left behind in Goa. It enlightens the viewer to be cautious when deciding to sell ancestral properties to builders outside Goa.
Anthony San and Bushan as caretakers have enacted their respective roles with ease. Jone Cristo Afonso as junior Pedro Portuguez is impressive. Wilmix has done justice to his role as senior Pedro Portuguez, with fluent speech in Portuguese. Ratna Govekar plays his part with ease in a dual role. Sharon, C D’Silva, Jonathan, enact their respective characters with ease.
Comedian Domnic, Luis Bachan, Joana, Tony de Ribandar, Clara and Fatima have extended good support to the main cast, with some lighter moments on stage. But a little decorum is expected when a woman handles the bar.
In the category of songs, solos by C D’Silva, Anthony San, Marcus Vaz, Tony de Ribandar, Joyallen, Anthony Sylvester, Jone Cristo, Sharon, duets by Bushan/Lajja, Wilmix/Sharon, Marcus/Tina were entertaining. A quintet by Anthiny San, Dominic, Luis Bachan, Marcus and Cajetan de Sanvordem and a trio by Tony, Cajetan and Dominic received encores.
