The strength of the oppressed

Herald Team
Being aware of Ronny taking undue advantage of his mom’s loneliness, Showan drops the idea of pursuing his doctoral studies and decides to work, earn and support the family to get rid of all the pending debts. Then, without letting anyone know, he takes up a part-time job of a rickshaw driver.
Simultaneously, Ronny’s carefree son Bento (Anil) gets into a relationship with college-going Stacy, thereby irking Showan. He warns his sister about the lad’s loose character.
His earnings as a rickshaw driver help Showan to support the family financially and even partially clear Ronny’s debt. But over a period of time, when the truth about his employment comes out, Lavina is unable to digest it.
The developments that follow in Lavina’s household are worth watching during the second half. Though the bits where Lavina decides to go to Mumbai with Showan and his unexpected return, leave the viewers puzzled.
Burden of debts, minor’s involvement in sex, abortion are some of the issues highlighted in this drama.
Comic acts by comedian Dominic and Luis Bachan within and in between the acts are enjoyable. The duo forms a perfect pair for some lighter moments on stage, especially the scene of the fake doctor interacting with his client.
Priscila delivers well in dialogues, but her appearance makes her look much younger than her grown up children. Michael and Anil excel in their negative roles. Sonali is just fitting in the teen’s shoes. Elias as the hardworking lad does justice to his character, but he could look more aggressive in the proceeding scenes. Xavier de Maina and Olga as doctors are comfortable in minor entries.
Songs by Leslie, Anil and Olga, Xavier/Priscila, Dominic, Rons/Elias, have messages for the audience. But a political solo by Olga and the concluding quartet on “lamanis” by Leslie, Dominic, Luis and Rons evoke a good response from the audience.
Under the mentor Piety, Delcy and Natasha display enough confidence and stand tall with their trumpet and saxophone. With Saldanha’s stage sets, Jack Tony has handled the light effects diligently.
