MAPUSA: Assonora United SC displayed a dominant performance to secure a 2-0 win over Guardian Angel Sports Club to march ahead in the 24th Vagator Soccer 2025 organised by Vagator PYSC at Poriat ground, on Monday.
Assonora United SC breakthrough came in the 9th minute when Prajat Naik slotted home the opener, 1-0.
Just minutes later, Assonora United SC doubled their lead through an impressive solo effort from Vishnu Pawar, who weaved past defenders before calmly finishing to make it, 2-0.
Guardian Angel SC had opportunities to respond, most notably in the 32nd minute, but a clear chance went abegging as their striker failed to find the target.
The Guardian Angel SC’s goalkeeper was kept busy and produced a superb one-handed save in the 34th minute to prevent further damage.
Despite going into halftime trailing by two goals, Guardian Angel SC returned with renewed energy. They created a series of chances. Velroy Carvalho of Guardian Angel SC had a frustrating outing, missing two clear headers - one of which went straight into the goalkeeper’s hand.
The man-of-the-match was awarded to Akash Kudnekar of Assonora United SC, who was a solid rock in the club’s defence.
