PANJIM: Bosco Monteiro, an accomplished football professional from Goa, inspired the young footballers at the Sesa Football Academy (SFA) during the celebrations for the 79th Independence Day, held at the academy’s Sirsaim campus.

The SFA is the flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative within Vedanta’s CSR framework, and the ceremony symbolised the spirit of unity and progress fostered by Vedanta’s commitment to sports development and talent enrichment.

Established in 1999, Sesa Football Academy has achieved some remarkable milestones over the years and has groomed more than 200 professional footballers through its training programmes. Bosco, during his illustrious football career, played for the Sesa Sports Club (the forerunner of SFA) for nine years and was part of the team when the SSC won the prestigious Bandodkar Trophy twice in a row in 1979 and 1980. Bosco’s presence at the flag hoisting ceremony at the SFA was extremely inspirational for the younger generation of football players and also aligns with SFA’s focus on remaining connected with the masters of "The Beautiful Game".

Speaking on the occasion, Bosco said, “It is an extremely proud moment for us all to be celebrating the 79th Independence Day. My advise to today’s footballers is to continue to work hard and remain iron-willed in their quest for success, and to make use of the facilities such as the SFA as these were non-existent in our times. I also congratulate the SFA for their success in the recent years and for the special achievements of the SFA women’s team in securing third position at the prestigious Indian Women League 2.”

Sesa Football Academy’s unwavering commitment to nurturing the dreams of aspiring footballers aligns perfectly with Vedanta’s core values, making the academy a beacon of inspiration for the nation’s sports development efforts.
