PANJIM: Chandan Caro and Ishita Colaso stole the spotlight by claiming double crowns at the 1st All Goa Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament organised by Ponda Table Tennis Sports Club in association with the Goa Table Tennis Association (GTTA), at the sports complex, Ponda, on Monday.
Last season’s National ranking gold medallist Chandan was in sublime form, brushing aside Dhruva Kamat 3-0 in the boys U-15 final and following it up with a confident 3-1 win over top seed Aaron Farias in the boys U-19 final.
Ishita, another of Goa’s brightest young prospects, showcased her brilliance to outclass Aarna Lotlikar 3-0 in the girls U-15 final and then held her nerve in a gripping girls U-19 title clash to defeat Neeza Kamat 3-2. In the other finals, Ishaan Colaso claimed the boys U-11 crown with a dominant 3-0 victory over Ashank Dalvi, while Anaya Shukla triumphed 3-0 against Shaurya Dessai to win the girls U-11 title. Ruhaan Shaikh took the boys U-13 honours with a clinical 3-0 win over Vedant Wagle and Sachi Dessai secured the girls U-13 title beating Tisha Shaikh in straight sets.
The finals were graced by chief guest and former cricketer Swapnil Asnodkar, GTTA President Sudin Verekar, GTTA Secretary Christopher Menezes, Councillor Shaunak Borkar, Shivanand Sawant, former chairperson Shantarm Kolvekar, and club officials Vishwanath Prabhu and Amogh Namshikar, among others.
