RAIA: CRC Chinchinim registered a confident 2-0 victory over St Anthony’s SC, Marna-Siolim, to move into semi-finals of 26th All Goa Our Lady of Merces football tournament played at Chinchinim Church ground, on Friday.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute when Chadel Fernandes latched onto a precise pass before calmly slotting past the rival goalkeeper to make it 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, Chadel doubled the advantage in the 37th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse to seal his brace and put CRC Chinchinim firmly in control.
Goalkeeper Sunny Fernandes was in stellar form for CRC Chinchinim, pulling off a string of spectacular saves to deny St Anthony’s SC a way back into the game. St Anthony’s SC came agonisingly close when Kanaya Govekar rose above the defence for a header, only to see it sail narrowly wide of the post.
