Devesh triumphs in State chess

PANJIM: Devesh Naik of Ponda Taluka won the State Senior Chess Championship/Selection Rated Tournament as he remained undefeated scoring 9 out of 9 rounds at Fontainhas, Sunday.

In the 8th round Devesh defeated Saras Powar while in the 9th round he accounted for Chaitanya Gaonkar.

Mandar Lad finished second with 8 points. He beat Rajveer Patil and Shubh Borkar in the 7th and 8th rounds respectively.

 Aayush Shirodkar stood 3rd with 6.5 points.

 Meanwhile, Devesh Naik, Mandar Lad , Aayush Shirodkar and Chaitanya Gaonkar have confirmed their entries for National Senior Chess Championship to be held in Pune from August 15.

 Mahesh Candolkar, president, Goa Chess Association, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of  Allabaksh Mulla, Ashesh Keni, Dattaram Pinge, Arvind Mhamal, Narayan Pednekar.
