Goa Police win Yuva’s badminton Championship

PANJIM: Goa Police outplayed Nestle in the final of 2nd All-Goa Organisational Level 4-a-side Badminton Championship organised by Yuva – a national award winning voluntary youth organisation of Panjim, at indoor stadium, Campal, here, recently.

Fifteen companies and departments from across Goa participated in the tournament which included Alcon, Nestle, Goa Police, Vergo, IFB, Directorate of Settlement and Land Records, Persistent, Commscope, Sanofi, TCS, Bank of Baroda, Goa Miles, Siemens and Prudent CAS to name a few.

In the final, both sides started on a positive note but the Goa Police were leading throughout the game to outsmart Nestle 45-29.

Best smasher of the tournament was awarded to Navin Palyekar (Goa Police), best defence was awarded to Floyd Aroujo (Nestle) and best player of the tournament was awarded to Bandu (Goa Police). Chief guest Kashyap Keni (commercial director, VerGo) presented the prizes to winners and runners-up in the presence of Yuva Secretary Diksha Shetye, Yuva President Sarvesh Shetye, Yuva Treasurer Shashank Sukhthankar, Yuva Joint Secretary Akhil Prabhu Verlekar Raghuvir Mahale, founder of Yuva congratulated the winners and runners-up.

Whilst congratulating the finalists for their splendid performance, Kashyap was pleased to see the passion for the game and the good quality of badminton dished out. 

He also congratulated Yuva for their social activities and urged corporates to support Yuva through their CSR initiatives for the betterment of society.

Earlier, President of Goa Badminton Association Manoj Patil inaugurated the tournament. 

He praised the efforts of YUVA for engaging corporates in sports and building up long lasting relationship for CSR initiatives in the State of Goa.

The programme was hosted by Raghuvir Mahale.
